outings: Bonner Farm

We visited the fall celebration at Bonner Farm, a local heritage museum, a couple of weeks ago. The farm was originally built in 1842 by Scottish immigrants William and Margaret Bonner. Their great grandson donated the farm to the forest preserve district in the 90’s which turned it into a hands-on learning museum to teach kids about farming. We didn’t learn all that much about farming, but we did have a good time exploring the area. It was a very low-key day. Not overly crowded, and the weather was nice. We got to pet lots of goats, take a hay ride, play in the sandbox, swing, sit on a tractor, play with some other kiddos, walk, and walk, and walk some more.

Not bad for a day that started out like this…
