embroidered felt owl

My first attempt at embroidery. The pattern is in the book  Doodle Stitching: Fresh & Fun Embroidery for Beginners by Amiee ray. It’s a tiny stuffed toy, about 3 inches tall. I used bamboo filling that I picked up at JoAnn’s, which was quite pricey but probably worth it in the end. It was much more dense and nicer to work with than the poly fiberfill I’m used to. The end result is much more solid and less squishy than typical filling. I also bought the felt there, which was very thin, not very soft, and just horrible to work with. I plan on looking for some decent quality felt online before I make the owl”s little raccoon friend. I found that even though I really don’t like hand sewing all that much, I did enjoy this. Learning all the different stitches on a rather small project made for a quick and relaxing disctraction from studying for my finals.
