the nursery: getting started

We started on the nursery last weekend. And when I say “we”, I really mean Scott.

The room came with pink bow wall paper when we bought the house – which Scott spent the better part of Saturday stripping off of the walls. (A note about the drawings…We planed on creating a Star Wars themed room if we were having a boy, complete with larger-than-life characters on the walls so it would feel like you were walking into a comic book. The drawings shown above were my early tests for that project. But alas, we’re not having a boy, but rather a girl. On to plan B: the forest theme.)

Stripping the paper actually wasn’t that bad compared to the trouble we went through stripping the paper in the spare bedroom. It took 5 garbage bags to get all of the paper scraps out of the room.

After a long day of scraping, pulling and ripping, we were left with mostly in tact white walls, with a bit of damage here and there. Nothing a little patching couldn’t fix.

We went to Lowes to pick up the new paint colors… Aqua Chiffon for the three main walls and Wicker Basket for the wall with the tree mural. We’re not sold on the Aqua color – it’s super bright, but we can always paint over it if it is too overpowering.

We’re using Olympic Premium Zero VOC paint. We haven’t cracked it open yet so I can’t attest to the quality, but it is supposed to be low odor, and has a Good Housekeeping seal of approval – for whatever that’s worth.

The best little helper in the whole wide world. Actually he wasn’t too happy with all the changes happening in “his” room.

So, there’s a peak at where we’re at. I’ll be spending the next few days patching, sanding and taping. Scott is going to start painting this weekend. More updates to come…
